Perry was born the 25th of July 1968 in Chicago, Illinois to Laurie Metcalf Perry and Jeff Perry. Her first television performances were Jackie Harris on ABC's sitcom Roseanne. Her mother portrayed her role. However, her parents did not allow her to act until she reached the age of adulthood because of the effects stress would have on their daughter. Perry confessed that she wasn't comfortable acting in high school, but started doing it to meet new people in Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Perry managed to get minor TV roles in Law & Order: Criminal Intent when she finished her degree. Homesickness, however, brought her back to California again where she began working in the stage. In 2013, she appeared in The Other Place on Broadway alongside her mother. Perry was in the show with their father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in the year 2015 in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in 9 episodes on ABC's drama The Family during 2016. She had a regular role in the ABC political drama Scandal, starring her dad. The actress was also featured on her role on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mom. She was cast in the role in spite of her strong family connection to the character.
